The Mayesh Design Star Workshop tour continued onto its third destination in Atlanta, Georgia where it teamed up with Accent Decor to put on a special workshop in their beautiful showroom and design studio. Accent Decor is one of the workshop’s top sponsors and has been providing the students with beautiful vessels to design in as well as other pretty details throughout. When they offered to host a special workshop in their space, Mayesh couldn’t resist the chance to visit their showroom and invite twenty five students to partake in the experience as well, while giving Design Star, Christy Hulsey, the opportunity to teach a workshop in her home state!
Similar to previous workshops, students had some of the best South American, Japanese, Dutch & local product at their fingertips to create their garden inspired arrangements, but what made this workshop different was that because it was held in Accent Decor’s dreamy space, students were given a tour of the coveted Accent Decor showroom. Product Manager, Monique Winn, led the students through the showroom, where a variety of vignettes showcasing new trends were on display for all to see.
Three of the featured trends included Calexico, Elusive Dynasty, and Leaf & Line. Calexico embodied effortless style; think whitewashed and weathered surfaces, rattan baskets, patterned bowls and cacti pots. Elusive Dynasty highlighted the opposite end of the spectrum with its luxurious materials and fine artistry; think hand-painted brush strokes, tarnish and patina, and cracked glaze. And as an ode to minimalism (and the 80’s), Leaf & Line walked the line between modern lines and playful, statement-making details; think an artfully displayed palm and pops of pink.
Following the showroom tour and trends presentation, the surprises weren’t over just yet! AD’s Creative & Public Relations Planner, Karla Taylor, gave the students a “behind the scenes” tour of the warehouse and studio, where all the magic happens. Students were delighted by the shelves upon shelves of gorgeous urns, vases and containers, just waiting to be filled with yummy flowers. It was quite a spectacular sight, and an experience not every designer can say they’ve had.
After an information filled morning and delicious lunch by Doz’ia Catering, the students finally got to roll up their sleeves, fill their buckets with flowers, and design their own garden inspired centerpieces in the Accent Decor Plaster Compote. Design Star Christy Hulsey of Colonial House of Flowers kicked off the hands-on portion by demonstrating how to go about starting their designs with a simple recipe of Oasis chicken wire and floral tape. Once the mechanics were secured, she built her base of greenery and then began to fill in with flowers. From burgundy peonies and anemones to white frilly tulips and delicate ranunculus, the workshop’s stunning palette ranged from soft whites and pinks to deeper, rich burgundies and corals, giving the arrangements a natural feel, almost as if they were plucked directly from an overflowing spring garden.
Once the centerpieces were completed, Accent Decor’s studio photographer, Becca Stanley, photographed each student’s design on a lovely styled table complete with tabletop pieces from Pottery Barn, a mouth-watering cheese board and pretty details from the AD showroom.
Students left this unforgettable day with a Swag Bag filled to the brim with both practical and fun tools, including a bottle of wine from Charles Hughes Wine, Design Master Color Tool Spray, Mayesh aprons and more!
